Multi-fuel stoves burn wood, smokeless fuel and coal- hence the name of 'multi fuel'. Multi-fuel stoves have a grate for coal to sit on, as it requires air to enter from below, in order to burn. Wood, on the other hand, requires air to enter from the top and burns well on a bed of ash.
